Mr. Flanders ANNOUNCEMENTS LEARNING SCHEDULE BEST PRACTICES EDUCATIONAL WEBSITES Mr. Flanders 4th Grade Room 47 Welcome to Room 47 ​Hello, my name is Mr. Flanders and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year! I am in my 17th year of teaching. I strive to create a positive, nurturing social environment in which students feel safe and supported. I work diligently to create a dynamic and rewarding academic environment in which students are both challenged and successful.​ ​​ Policies and Procedures There will be homework each night Monday - Friday. There will be one page of leveled (below grade level, at grade level, above grade level) reading and Eureka math. Homework is due the next day (no notes, no excuses) and should take 30 minutes or less. All students are strongly encouraged (but not required) to read 20 minutes or more each night. Suggested school supplies: mechanical pencils or standard pencils with personal sharpener, highlighters, and earbuds or headphones. I have extra headphones and highlighters for those students who cannot bring their own. I will provide all other needed materials. No markers or 3-ring binders please. Wish List: baby wipes, sugar-free gum and other trinkets for the prize box (no food or used items) I strictly adhere to the district wellness policy. Birthdays and treats are for home. My door is always open. After school is a great time to come in and visit with the teacher. Please use email (flanders.robert@tusd.org) when contacting me. Personal ​ I received my teaching degree from Long Beach State and my master's degree from Concordia University. I have been married for 36 years to Beth Flanders, R.N. We have 2 biological children. Kai has a master's degree from Columbia University and is a ghost writer. ​ Summer graduated as a nurse from Indiana University and is currently a doctoral student at USC Keck Medical. We have 4 adopted girls from China: Quinn will be attending Western Kentucky University. Amy is a senior at Mira Costa High School. Kerry is a 7th grader at Hermosa Valley School. Lacey is a 6th grader at Hermosa Valley School. Tips on How to Succeed in 4th Grade 1. Establish routines and stick to them. This is especially true with homework. 2. Read, read, read! Read independently for at least 20 minutes daily. 3. Complete reading and homework before watching screens like TV, computer, phone, or video. Use screen time or other preferred activities as a reward for completed tasks. 4. Go to Bed!
